Every now and then I have the overwhelming urge to create something truly unique, one of a kind yet whilst being a challenge to me.
This is the piece that has sparked a recent flurry of other pieces using the design but in a different ways and styles ([link])
I adore stumpwork, who doesn’t like the idea of turning their embroidery into something 3D rather the usual 2D; it gives you so much more scope!
The actual design, like so many of my pieces, started off a scrap of a drawing in one of my many trusty sketchbooks, and then finally it became the right time to develop the design into something workable.
In all it has taken twenty-eight hours to stitch, mount and frame the piece. Of course, that wasn’t done in a solid twenty-eight hour stint. I need time for tea, biscuits and natural daylight.
I am 100% happy with this piece; it’s been a pleasure to work on and has certainly done what I set out to achieve to create a unique piece whilst keeping my grey matter ticking. All that remains is for the piece to find a loving home.
Well, if anyone can do it, you can! Your work stands out from the normal. Your creativity, style and positive energy combined with your knowledge of materials and techniques, makes your work special. Your pieces are not just attractive, high-quality!!! Damn good work, I'd say!
This is absolutely adorable! You know, you've got talent that many people pray for, along with a great sense of creativity. It must be upsetting when you give away such fine works.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. It can be, its odd. I find my enjoyment is in the actual creation of the piece. When it is finished there is a sense of accomplishment but then I get itchy fingers and I need to get on with the next piece. I find it can be a bit of a relief when they do go to a good home...mainly to make space!
