Honeycomb and Bee Wall Clock

Since changing my branding over to Mason Bee, I have been determined to promote the worrying demise of the humble, and often overlooked bee. They are such a vital part of our ecosystem and need our protection, which is why I have become a supporter of the British Bee Keepers Association*, amongst over bee related charities to help.

This clock is the first in a line that will help me to support their good work, and by purchasing this clock a donation of £5 will be given to the BBKA on your behalf.

Now to the clock itself....

I have meticulously hand embroidered a version of the Honeycomb stitch, one of many patterns that go under the heading of Blackwork (a counted form of embroidery). To give the piece more depth I have shaded the pattern in two ways; firstly by utilising different shades of amber to burnt umber coloured thread and by fading out the pattern.

To give even more detail to the piece there are subtle stitches in gold metallic thread, and three tiny bees also adorn it.

Overall the piece just makes me want to have a cup of tea, and a slice of toast smothered in honey.
